FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Do I need a Stripe account?
Yes. Shopigent Payments uses Stripe to process all money movement — deposits, balance charges, and refunds. If you don't have one, create a free Stripe account. You'll get test keys to start and can switch to live keys when you're ready.
Can I use Shopify Payments instead?
Not directly. Stripe is the payment gateway that powers the deposit and balance flows. Your store can still use Shopify Payments for regular checkout — Shopigent Payments only handles the deposit/pre-order/deferred payment portion.
Does this work with my existing theme?
Yes. Deposit links are sent to customers separately (email, SMS, order notes) — they're not embedded in your checkout. No theme modifications are needed.
Is there a free trial?
Growth and Pro plans include a 7-day free trial. No credit card required to start.
Pricing & Billing
What happens when I hit my Free plan limit?
At 20 orders/month or 1 active plan, the app stops applying payment plans to new orders. Existing orders continue normally. Upgrade to Growth or Pro to continue.
Can I switch plans?
Yes, any time. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
Is annual billing available?
Yes — you save 2 months per year:
- Growth: $190/year (vs $228 monthly)
- Pro: $490/year (vs $588 monthly)
Does Shopigent charge Stripe transaction fees?
No. Stripe charges their standard processing rate — we don't add any fees on top.
Technical
How do payments reconcile?
Every order has an OrderPayment record that tracks deposit and balance amounts, charge attempts, and Stripe PaymentIntent IDs. The Orders dashboard shows the full lifecycle.
Is the Stripe webhook secure?
Yes. Every webhook event is verified using the stripe-signature HMAC before processing. We also check for idempotency — duplicate events are detected by providerChargeId and skipped.
Can I refund a deposit?
Yes. Go to Orders & Payments → find the order → click Refund. The app cancels uncaptured intents or refunds captured charges via Stripe.
What happens if a payment fails?
The dunning engine kicks in automatically:
- Reminder 1 — immediate app notification
- Reminder 2 — 3 days later
- Final notice — 7 days later
- Escalation — 14 days later (merchant intervention)
Business
Can I use this for pre-orders?
Yes. The Pre-order plan type is designed for this: collect a deposit now, auto-charge the balance when the item is ready to ship.
What about chargebacks?
Stripe handles chargeback disputes. Shopigent Payments records every transaction (charge attempts, PaymentIntent IDs, amounts, timestamps) so you have evidence for dispute responses.
Can customers pay installments?
Yes. Deferred plans with installment splitting let customers pay the balance in N equal payments. The schedule is tracked per order.
Is this good for made-to-order products?
Absolutely. This is our primary use case. Artists, craftspeople, and custom manufacturers can collect 50% deposits upfront and the remaining 50% on delivery — no manual invoicing needed.
